UIMSA Press Holds 2024/2025 Awards and Handover Ceremony

The University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association (UIMSA) Press today, 7th February 2026, held its 2024/2025 Awards and Handover Ceremony themed “Continuity” at the Famewo Common Room, Alexander Brown Hall (ABH), University of Ibadan, at 3:00 PM prompt.
The event began with the recitation of the Press Prayer, followed by a welcome address and speech by the now erstwhile E-i-C, Simeon Okojie. He spoke on the essence of active journalism and the importance of quality work despite the decline in participation amongst the student populace in journalism and in politics entirely. Afterwards, there were comments about the tenure, article reviews and criticism.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards across various categories and the official swearing-in of the new editorial board. Award recipients recognised at the ceremony were:
- Pressman of the Year: Nnamdi Sunday
- Best Editor: Emmanuel Ibitunde
- Best Entertainment Writer: Wisdom Ladapo
- Best Interviews & Opinions Writer: Aminat Yusuff
- Best Politics Writer: Osakwe Okojie
- Best Features Writer: Moboluwarin Ogunleye
- Best Sports Writer: Oluwatobiloba Osunwole
- Best News Writer: Nnamdi Sunday
- Best Health Writer: Rodiyah Khidir
- Most Promising Pressman: Aminat Yusuff
Following the awards, the outgoing editorial board was acknowledged for its service, after which the new board for the 2025/2026 Press Year was sworn in. The incoming executives are:
- Editor-in-Chief/Politics Editor: Peter Adeyemo
- Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Clinicals)/News Editor: Nnamdi Sunday
- Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Pre-clinicals)/Features Editor: Gloria Nelson
- Board Secretary/Interviews and Opinions Editor: Yusuf Akinyooye
- Financial Secretary/ Health Editor: Benedict Ugor
- Public Relations Officer/Entertainment Editor: Wisdom Ladapo
- Sports Editor: Oluwatobiloba Osunwole
Shortly after the handover, the new Editor-in-Chief, Peter Adeyemo, addressed pressmen, encouraging them to maintain the optimal standard of quality journalism as the watchdogs of the fast-declining political sphere in the University of Ibadan and beyond. He also asked that pressmen work with the new board in maintaining the excellence, and raising the bar even higher. UCJ-UI Editor-in-Chief, Utibe Emmanuel, also addressed the Press on the highs and lows of journalism, highlighting the role of the UCJ in incentivising strong reportage.
The event came to an end at about 5:25 p.m. with group photographs taken.
