UI’SU Resolves Against Transport Fare Increment

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has resolved to reject any proposed increment in transportation fares on campus according to a release sent out before noon, today, Saturday, 28th September, 2024.

The release signed by the House Secretary, Elemide Daniel, and the General Secretary, Ogundijo Dolapo Japhet,  comes in the aftermath of a meeting held with student leaders at the SRC Chamber, on Friday, 27th September, 2024, to discuss the transportation price on Campus.

Speaking with the Press, Elemide remarked that the decision to reject the hike was made in light of students’ finances. “It would not be fair on the students who are currently facing various economic challenges with fees hike to add the burden of an increased tranport fare”, he said.

The Union also tasked her representatives in the Intra-Campus Transport Committee (ICTC) to make her stance known to the Committee, with prompt communication of feedback from further ICTC meetings to keep the Union informed, especially in light of reported hikes by transport workers in some sections of campus.
