UIMSAite Emerges UI SRC Speaker

A 600 level medical student of the University of Ibadan has emerged as the Speaker of the 13th Assembly of the University of Ibadan Student Representative Council (UI SRC).
The emergence followed the Valedictory Sitting and Inauguration Ceremony of the Student Representative Council, held yesterday at the Students’ Union Building Chambers. The event, initially scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m., began an hour after the slated time with student representatives and other attendees present to witness the transition into a new legislative session.
At the conclusion of the speakership election, Rt. Hon. Oludele John, a UIMSAite and resident of the Alexander Brown Hall, UCH, was elected Speaker of the 13th Assembly of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Student Representative Council. He secured 76 votes to defeat Jokomba Quyum, who polled 47 votes.
Other principal officers of the 13th Assembly also emerged during the inauguration. Hon. Sola-Alao Olamiposi of Obafemi Awolowo Hall was elected Deputy Speaker, while Hon. Monibidor Wallace of Great Independence Hall assumed office as Chief Whip. Additionally, Hon. Obi Chiamaka Joan of Queen Elizabeth II Hall emerged as the Clerk of the House, completing the lineup of principal officers tasked with supporting the legislative operations of the Student Representative Council for the new term.
In a conversation with a UIMSA press correspondent, the newly elected Speaker outlined his vision for the council, emphasizing a legislature grounded in service and responsiveness.
“I plan to create a legislature that listens, acts, and delivers. It is a position of service to the representatives of the various constituencies and to Uites at large,” he said.
Speaking further on his expectations for the tenure of the 13th Assembly, Hon. Oludele stated that his leadership would focus on strengthening representation and improving the visibility and recognition of the SRC within the university community. According to him, the overarching goal is to build a legislative body that effectively amplifies the voices of students while maintaining accountability and responsiveness in its actions.
