UIMSA Organises Freshers’ Welcome and Orientation

The newest members of the University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association, the 2k27 Class, had their Freshers’ Welcome and Orientation events on the 21st and 22nd of June, 2024. 

The events, hosted under the theme, “Nouvelle Nova: A Bright Star”, held in three different locations, with Indoor Games taking place at Tedder Hall on the 21st, a football match at the SUB Pitch, also on the 21st, and the Orientation at the Botanical Gardens, on the 22nd. It was organised via the Office of the Special Duties Officer, in person of Greatness Abraham. 

Nouvelle Nova kick-started with an afternoon of indoor games. The games played include Scrabble, Chess, and Ayo. There was also a round of riddles with the winners leaving with prizes. After the games, a football match between the 2k27 and 2k26 (Imperium) classes took place at the SUB pitch by 4 pm. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Kingsley Okolo scored for the 2k27 class while Abiodun Azeez scored the equalizing goal for the 2k26 class.

The Orientation took place the day after at the UI Botanical Gardens. Members of the UIMSA Executive Council welcomed attendees to the association with the exemption of the Sports Secretary who had to deal with the pre-NIMSA heat. Although the orientation was slated for noon, it eventually commenced at 1:10 pm. The event began on an interesting note as members of the class introduced themselves to ‘break the ice’. It featured talks from three members of the 300-Level class(2k25) . The first speaker, Blessing Olaniyi,  spoke on Academic Excellence. The second, Elizabeth Ayegboyin,  a serving senator in the association, spoke on extracurriculars and UIMSA responsibilities. And the last speaker, Igdaliah Otitoola,  spoke on “Maximizing your time in medical school.”

There was also a talent show. Afterwards, the UIMSA President, Inioluwa John, introduced the members of the executive council. The event concluded at 4:15 pm.
