Sigma Club Holds Press Conference Ahead of Roseline Etuokwu Quiz Finale

The Sigma Club, University of Ibadan, held a press conference today March 12th to discuss the final stage of the Roseline Etuokwu Quiz Competition, scheduled to take place on March 14, 2026, at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan. The meeting, held via Google Meet, was chaired by Loyalist Sulaimon Oluwasegun Philipson. In attendance were the Sigma Chief, Loyalist Oluwa Olagoke; the quiz chairman; the Sigma Chief Scribe; and representatives from UIMSA, Law, Bello, AFAS and ACLAS Press.
The meeting began at about 5 PM with a welcome address from the chairman, who described the quiz competition as a philanthropic initiative of the Sigma Club that has made a significant impact. He highlighted that about 3,000 schools participated in the first stage of the competition held in January. The number was reduced to 37 after the state stage and eventually to six finalists at the regional stage. He also stated that a total prize pool of ₦20 million would be distributed to winners across all stages of the competition. Following this opening remark, press representatives introduced themselves.
The question-and-answer session commenced shortly after. When asked about invited guests for the finale, the organisers confirmed that several dignitaries had been invited, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Students, hall wardens, Student Union executives, members of the Student Representative Council, the Committee of Hall Chairpersons, the Chairman of the Alumni Association, officials from the Ministry of Education, and the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who will serve as the minister of the day.
Questions were also raised about the prize money and competition format. It was explained that ₦200,000 would be awarded to each of the 37 state winners at the first stage, while the six regional winners received ₦500,000 each. The final competition will consist of three rounds: the first round will eliminate the bottom two schools, the second round will eliminate one more school, and the final round will determine the positions of the top three finalists. The winner will receive ₦5 million, the second-place school ₦2 million, and the third-place school ₦1 million. The remaining three schools will each receive a consolation prize of ₦500,000.
Responding to a question about logistics, the organisers confirmed that transportation and accommodation for the competitors would be fully covered by the Sigma Club. Accommodation will be provided until a day after the event, while transportation to and from Ibadan will also be arranged. It was further noted that competitors would be transported by air due to the current insecurity concerns.
On concerns about grading and scoring, the quiz chairman assured the press of transparency through an open marking system. He added that teachers accompanying the contestants would be allowed to review their candidates’ scripts to ensure fairness and accuracy in the marking process.
