Defending champions TomTom keep their hopes for a second title alive after securing a final berth against Epic Alliance, while debutantes Valiente CF fall short in the last four in a dramatic conclusion of the Sigma League Quarter-finals and Semi-finals.
Quarter-Final Recap
After the group stage showdown, all four quarter-final matches of the Sigma Chief’s League were played on Wednesday, September 9.
Valiente CF— who have maintained strong defensive coordination so far in the competition, with zero goals against them and first place in the group stage — faced FC Galacticos, the 8th team on the table, for the first match of the day. An action-packed first half ended in a goalless draw; but after the break, Stephen put Valiente ahead. When it seemed like Valiente had done enough to secure the victory and another clean sheet, Victor, the Galacticos’ winger, equalized to send the tie to be decided by a penalty shootout. The shootout ended 6:5 in favour of Valiente, where they became the first to qualify for the semi-finals.
The second match of the day, between AAH Rangers and Vipers FC, ended like many UI football knockout matches: a goalless draw. The semi-finalist was to be decided on penalties again, just like the first quarter-final match. In the end, Vipers FC won the penalty shootout 4-2. The biggest deciding factor being that Vipers’ goalkeeper was able to save a penalty kick, which made up for the one penalty lost by his teammate later in the shootout – AAH Rangers kicked two penalties away, including the one saved.
The most impressive and entertaining match of the day was between TomTom FC and TechRoad FC — TomTom delivered an impressive performance, entertaining the audience with three goals, and showing defensive composure against goal-scoring opportunities from TechRoad FC. Jamiu scored a penalty in the first-half, which became the first goal that put TomTom FC ahead. Both teams battled it out throughout the first-half, went on halftime break, before deep into the second half Peter assisted Marvellous, who scored the second goal for TomTom FC. A few minutes later, TechRoad lost even further ground in the game when Jamiu scored his second goal, sealing their win and making the scoreline 3-0.
For the last match of the day, Epic Alliance and DA-EBS FC also delivered a goalless draw. They settled their contest with a penalty shootout, where Epic Alliance won 5-3 on penalties.
Semi-Final Recap
Valiente CF faced Epic Alliance on Thursday, September 10, in the first semi-final match of the 2026 Sigma Cup. An early penalty goal put Epic Alliance ahead, and just two minutes later, they made Valiente concede another goal, their third so far in the competition. The second half returned, and another early goal put Epic Alliance three goals ahead, displaying full offensive dominance over the best defensive team in the competition so far. Both teams continued to play before the referee blew the final whistle, and Epic Alliance qualified for their first Sigma Cup Final.
On the same day, the second semi-final match between Vipers and TomTom FC was played. A goalless draw in regular minutes and a 4:3 win on penalties secured a place in the final for TomTom FC, where they would attempt to defend the same trophy they had won the previous year.
At 1pm on Saturday, September 12, Valiente will face Vipers at the Old SUB pitch for the third-place playoff, while the final will see Epic Alliance aiming to win their first title against a TomTom side no doubt also gunning for a second.
