Emergency Congress Holds Today, May 6, as Academic Activities Have Been Suspended

The UI Students’ Union has announced a suspension of all academic activities until further notice and an announcement of an Emergency Congress — with the agenda: Deliberating on the “Way Forward” regarding the strike and our welfare — in a circular dated 6th of May 2026.

This comes after an address by the Students’ Union President, Adebayo Temidayo, during the protest, promising the SU will ensure there are no classes until further notice and announcing an emergency congress to hold by 5PM on Wednesday, May 6, at SUB Foyer. However this resolution has been vehemently rejected by protesters, demanding the congress commences immediately. As at the time of this release, the SU General Secretary is calling the protesters together to hold the Congress in the middle of the road.

“We urge all students to remain united and peaceful. Your presence at this congress is vital as we decide the next steps in our advocacy for a better campus experience,” the notice, signed by the SU President and General Secretary, reads.
