Second Semester to Run for 13 Lecture Weeks, UISU Clarifies

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) has confirmed that the current semester will run on a 13-week lecture schedule, in a notice released today, July 13th, 2026 following enquiries from students over the extended lecture period.

This concern arose after the University’s academic calendar read that lectures will run from Monday, July 13, to Friday, October 9, 2026, a period spanning 13 teaching weeks. The union clarified that the duration reflected on the University’s academic calendar is intentional and not a system error.

The Union further explained that the essence is to provide adequate time for effective teaching, learning, and comprehensive coverage of course contents, adding that the extended lecture duration forms part of the University’s approved academic schedule for the semester and urged students to take advantage of the additional instructional period by remaining committed to their academic activities.

The clarification comes after years in which the University’s lecture period for a semester had typically lasted 11 weeks, making the current 13-week schedule a notable departure from recent practice.
