CLINICAL SCIENCES AT THE INTERFACULTY GAMES
As always, the recently concluded Interfaculty games had Clinical Sciences participate and UIMSAites and other Clinical students took the opportunity to participate. The importance of Healthweek and other games was on display as the best of the clinical students showed their stuff to the entirety of the University of Ibadan.
The varied competition saw several sports played, with games being played almost every day and buses moving to and from Alexander Brown Hall. The transport was not wasted as the faculty achieved some success with some medals being won across a number of sports.
Chess was a successful endeavour as our participants showed of their prowess with the male team winning gold. The team consisted of Akporherhe Blessing, Oguntona Abraham, Udochukwu Victor, Makuochukwu Okigbo, Michael Paul, and Osisanwo Ifeoluwa and some of them went on to win individual medals. Oguntona Abraham and Michael Paul won gold medals while Akporherhe Blessing won a silver medal. The female team was unable to get any medals but Ayegboyin Loveth and Victoria Aladi were able to clinch individual bronze medals.
In team scrabble, the trio of John Inioluwa, Okoye Portian and Eriomala John were able to win a silver medal. In track and field, Adara Philp ran tirelessly, winning gold medals in both the 5000m and 10 000m races while Akande Qudus secured a bronze medal in the 1500m race. Similarly, the UIMSA Congress Chancellor, Oyedokun Abigail, showed her stuff, winning gold medals in female Shotput and Discus.
Opara Charles and Femi-Oni Eniola clinched individual medals in table tennis, winning silver and bronze medals respectively. They also won the same medals in the doubles, as Opara Charles partnered with Oguntuga Kehinde and Femi-Oni Eniola teamed up with Shola Balogun.
The male Volleyball team, led by Adeyeye Jesufemi, won gold. The female team, captained by Medebem Obiageli, was also successful, winning a silver medal. Finally, the female basketball team, led by Osisiogu Onyinyechi won a bronze medal.
The steady transport from UCH to UI certainly played a role in our success. It was also nice to have the female teams win medals at the Interfaculty games. With many participants in the junior classes, Clinical Sciences is in safe hands for years to come. Hopefully, we have more people eager to participate at the next Interfaculty games and are able to build on what we have achieved this year, with greater success next year.
