Federal High Court to Deliver Verdict on UI3 Suspension Case

The Federal High Court in Ibadan has scheduled March 31, 2026, for the judgment in a lawsuit filed by three University of Ibadan students challenging their suspension and victimisation following an anti-fee hike protest.
The students, Aduwo Ayodele, Mide Gbadegesin, and Nice Linus are challenging the disciplinary measures imposed on them following their protest against the institution’s fee hike policy. What began as a brief, silent display of placards reading #FEESMUSTFALL during a Students’ Union inauguration on May 13, 2024, quickly escalated into a confrontation that would alter their academic journeys.
According to the students, they were removed from the venue, physically assaulted, and later subjected to disciplinary proceedings that led to the suspension of two of them for four semesters. They argue that the punishment was excessive and intended to silence dissent.
Their suit before the Federal High Court questions the legality of those actions and seeks redress over what they describe as victimisation for exercising their right to peaceful expression.
With judgment now fixed for 10:00 a.m. on March 31, attention is turning back to the courtroom. Supporters say the outcome will not only determine the fate of the affected students but also shape conversations around academic freedom and student activism within the university system.
As the date approaches, the students are urging colleagues, civil society actors, and members of the public to show up at the Federal High Court in Ibadan in solidarity.
