Asido Mental Health Fellowship Offers Students a Path into Mental Health Advocacy

The Asido Mental Health Fellowship (AMHF) is a 12-week virtual programme by the Asido Foundation, designed to equip young people with practical knowledge and skills in mental health advocacy, leadership and community action. The 2026 edition, which began on August 28, brings together participants for weekly sessions led by experienced facilitators, alongside opportunities to work on community-based mental health projects.
Rather than focusing only on learning about mental health, the fellowship encourages participants to put what they learn into practice. Its programme covers areas including mental health foundations, digital advocacy and online safety, Mental Health First Aid, leadership, communication and community advocacy. Fellows also spend four weeks developing and implementing a community project before the programme concludes with certificate presentations.
The fellowship is part of the Asido Foundation’s wider work to improve mental health awareness, reduce stigma and empower people to become advocates within their communities. The Foundation describes itself as a nonprofit mental health advocacy organisation working through evidence-based information, advocacy and interventions to address Nigeria’s mental health needs.
For students, the 2026 fellowship also offered a particularly accessible opportunity: the programme provided 10 fully funded places per campus, with a minimum of 11 applicants from a campus required for that campus to qualify for consideration. Funded participants would join the Asido Campus Network as Campus Ambassadors, extending the fellowship’s impact beyond the virtual sessions and into their universities. The 2026 programme runs from August 28 to November 13, with sessions held virtually on Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. WAT.2
