US SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS ABORTION PROTECTION, LEAVING INDIVIDUAL STATES TO DECIDE
The US Supreme Court has voted to overturn the federal constitutional right to abortion, turning the issue over to individual states to decide.
The decision by a majority of conservative justices to fundamentally reshape American society came down on Friday, June 24th 2022 after five judges against four voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The decision of the US Supreme Court does not however outrightly bans abortion but give states right to decide on the matter.
The president has expressed displeasure over the matter on Friday while addressing the Press. ‘Today, the Supreme Court of the United States expressly took away a constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized. They didn’t limit it. They simply took away’.
Roe v. Wade was a 1973 decision of the US Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the US Constitution generally protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion.
The decision of the US Supreme Court has sparked reactions all over the country as it essentially overturn over 50 years of constitutional protection over abortions.
We continue to anticipate more reactions to the decision.
