SEALS Cup ’26: MBBS Women See Off EHS to Book Knockout Spot

The Ibadan Medicine women delivered yet another commanding performance in Matchday 2 of the SEALS Cup ’26, with a second successive 3-0 victory, this time against the lemon green of EHS, at the SUB Small Pitch on Thursday evening, April 30th, 2026.

The match kicked off in earnest at exactly 4:08 PM, and from the blast of the whistle, it was clear both teams had a point to prove– MBBS hoping to lock down a spot in the last eight with a game to spare and EHS aiming to keep their qualification hopes alive. Before kickoff, EHS captain, Bunmi Esther, made her intentions clear: they came for just the one thing– the three points. With no wins yet in the competition, they knew they had to avoid defeat here to stay in contention.

And true to that, the early minutes had EHS in control, with wave after wave of attacks. However, Afeezah stood tall in the MBBS goal, denying them the breakthrough they craved. That resistance proved decisive as MBBS grew into the contest, and it wasn’t long after that before the breakthrough came. Sarah was at it once again, opening the scoring with a clinical finish, giving MBBS the lead going into the break.

The MBBS side had the momentum coming into halftime and they kicked off in the second half with even more urgency. Sarah and Ope dazzled in midfield, linking up well with quick one-twos, and they almost doubled the lead, drawing a smart stop from the EHS goalkeeper. Ope, full of energy and intent, continued to torment the EHS defence– she beat her marker and earned a corner after a dangerous attempt was well blocked. And the pressure would tell almost immediately, from the resulting corner taken by Ope, as Chidinma reacted quickest to the bury the rebound after her initial attempt was blocked, to put Ibadan Medicine two goals clear.

The MBBS team still did not rest on their oars, with Ope driving down the wing and Chidinma’s tricky movement stretching the EHS defence. The EHS backline put up a brave front, and stood stolidly to deny them another breakthrough, but in the end could do very little to deny Sarah her second of the day, and MBBS’s third, to cap off a brilliant attacking display.

With the victory all but confirmed, there was a flurry of activity from the bench, with Unique replacing Danielle, and Ewa and Ayanfe coming on for Chidinma and Ope respectively, as MBBS comfortably saw out the game with fresh legs, but not before Sarah nearly added a fourth, hitting the post, while Ope’s rebound effort was just narrowly wide.

At full time, it was once again that familiar scoreline, three goals to nil, to ensure safe passage to the quarter-finals with a game to spare. MBBS coach Possible was ecstatic with his team’s display: “I am so elated that we won the game; in fact, I didn’t expect anything less, and we are looking forward to winning our upcoming matches”. The team will no doubt be relishing their next match, a table-decider against serial semi-finalists Archeology and Anthropology who won 2-0 at Law, to determine who sees out Group D in first place.
