The Department of Medicine and Surgery has been drawn into Group B for the Group Stage of the Seals Cup along with Mechanical Engineering, Adult Education, and Philosophy, at the Press Conference for the 2023 Seals Cup held in the Student Representatives Council Chamber, Students’ Union Building.
They will be squaring off againts 31 other departments for the title of Champion of UI’s foremost Inter-Departmental Football Competition; serving as one of two representatives from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, alongside Nursing. This will also be their first year participating in the tourney.
In a conversation with the UIMSA Press, the UIMSA Sports Secretary and a member of the Football team, Akinnusoye David, expressed excitement at his team’s prospect, saying, “I have been in UIMSA for a good time now to know how UIMSAites think and they can only expect we go out there and bring the cup back home so that’s exactly what we’re going to work towards and nothing less. I believe we have the talents, right squad and a coach with the track records to do the clean job. I look forward just like every UIMSAite ONLY to a victorious outing. We’ll be there. Ibadan Medicine will be there!”.
Similarly, Coach of the team, Mark Obeya, echoed this sentiment saying, concerning what UIMSAites should expect, “I don’t have any doubts or concerns. If our players are fully available, I’m very confident in their ability to face any opponents. The team will give the competition their absolute best shot”.
The 2023 Seals Cup, which is in its second edition as a Students’ Union-run tournament, will begin this Friday, the 29th of September, 2023
