CoMUI’s Professor E. O. Olapade-Olaopa Emerges WFME President-Elect

Professor Emiola Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa, Consultant Urologist and Head of Department, Surgery, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, emerged World Federation for Medical Education new president-elect at the closing ceremony of the 3-day Association of Medical Schools in Africa 2026 hybrid conference in Lagos, Nigeria, on March 28, 2026.

His appointment was confirmed at the WFME executive council meeting held in Lagos and he will be assuming position on January 1, 2027, succeeding current president, Professor Ricardo Leon Borquez at the conclusion of his four-year term.

In his speech, Professor Olapade-Olaopa said, “I am honoured by the trust placed in me by the WFME executive council. I am committed to working collaboratively with colleagues across all regions to strengthen medical education systems, support innovation, and ensure that future physicians are equipped to meet the evolving health needs of their communities.”
