UI’SU Elections 2025: SUEC Releases Screening Results, Presidential Aspirant Withdraws

The Students’ Union Electoral Committee (SUEC) has released the official screening results for the 2025/2026 University of Ibadan Students’ Union elections, an important process of vetting the prospective candidates before the election proper. The list, published on December 7, contains the scores and qualification status of aspirants across multiple executive positions, with most candidates clearing the screening stage.
In the Assistant General Secretary race, both Fidelia Eghonghon Eseile (68.85%) and Adegboye Habeebullah Temitope (60.38%) qualified. For Sports Secretary, Siyanbade Adedamola Olalekan advanced with a score of 71.50%. Two aspirants vied for Treasurer Odey John Onah (70.00%) and Sobowale Victoria Temiloluwa (68.75%), both qualifying. In the House Secretary category, Tifase Oluwatimilehin qualified with 61.71%, while the second aspirant, Emmanuel Olayemi Akinbusuyi, was marked absent and scored NIL. The Public Relations Officer aspirant, Afofadejo Olasunkanmi Alabi, emerged with one of the highest scores (85.10%), securing a qualification. Shontan Joshua Olusola also qualified as General Secretary with 69.32%. Both Vice President aspirant Salawu Durojaye Glory (70.54%) and Ojo Adebimpe Oluwatoyin (70.42%) successfully passed the screening.
The presidential race featured three aspirants, but only two, Olawoye Taiwo Emmanuel (76.77%) and Adeboye Temidayo Sewanu (70.41%), qualified. The highlight of the screening release was the withdrawal of Adeyemi Olamilekan Oluwaseun from the election.
Adeyemi, the convener of the Ad Meliora movement, has released a statement on the circumstances surrounding his exit from the race. According to the SUEC report and further statements released by Adeyemi himself, his disqualification stemmed from an inability to provide essential faculty documentation before the end of the electoral timeline—documents required for aspirants to be considered eligible.
In an official withdrawal statement, Adeyemi acknowledged the lapse, stating: “Without these documents, I am rendered ineligible to proceed… I believe in upholding both the letter and the spirit of our electoral guidelines, and it is with this principle in mind that I step aside. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and urged students to scrutinize candidates while maintaining a peaceful and issue-based election atmosphere.
In conversation with the press, Micheal Oloruntola, the SUEC’ Secretary, said, “I was not present at the screening process so I can not exactly give the details of what exactly transpired in the event. But the information I have with me is that he is unable to provide his transcript evidence of his C.G.P.A, which is a key document in the vetting process, and a failure to do this results in an automatic disqualification.”
