Adeniran Happiness Emerges USA President-Elect
Following the 2024 University College Hospital Students’ Association Elections which took place on Friday, 20th December, 2024, fourth-year Physiotherapy student, Adeniran Happiness, has emerged as the President-Elect of the Association with 95 votes out of 115, as announced by the Electoral Commission on the morning of Saturday, the 21st.
Alongside her, Ibrahim Suliat, a second-year student of the School of Health Information Management emerged as the Vice President-elect with 94 votes, Adelakin Phebe, as Assistant General Secretary with 99 votes, Ejerinde Peace, a third-year School of Nursing Student, as General Secretary with 99 votes, Uma Oluchi, a fifth-year Medicine and Surgery student, as Social Director with 59 votes, Shodimu Victoria, a third-year School of Nursing student, as Public Relations Officer with 100 votes, and Fashola Joshua, a fourth-year Physiotherapy student, as Sports Director with 99 votes.
All of the aforementioned offices were solely contested for with the exception of the office of the Social Director, with three aspirants. The offices of the Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Special Duties Officer, were noticeably vacant and will be filled according to Sub section 5 of Section 37 Article XIII Chapter 6 of the Reviewed USA Constitution, which states that, “In case of vacant office, the electoral commission shall publicized the vacant offices and interested aspirant names be forwarded to the SRC for bye election”.
Mixed reactions appeared to trail the announcements of the results with some members of the Association congratulating the Executives-Elect while others questioned the quick conduction of the Election without proper campaigns as well as the unresolved misappropriation of COG funding from the outgoing administration.
Speaking with the Press, Miss Happiness, said, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my fellow USA members. I want to also acknowledge the hard work and dedication of my fellow candidates. We all share a common goal of serving this association, and I look forward to working with them for the betterment of University College Hospital Students’ Association
As outlined in my manifesto, my council and I are committed to upholding the ‘TAS’ grand plan, which focuses on Transparency, Accountability, and Stability. We will work diligently to ensure that these principles are upheld to the highest standard”.
She added, “I urge all daughter associations to collaborate with us in order to revive the Association. Thank you for electing me as your president. I am truly honored and humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me“.
