Project Lifestream Organizes Blood Drive
The ‘Lifestream Blood Drive’, organized by Project Lifestream of the 2024 Millennium Fellow, Daniella Obikunle, in collaboration with “The Red Drop Project”, and in partnership with The BloodDrive Network, the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC), Aqua Life and the office of the health minister of Ransome Kuti Hall, University of Ibadan, held on Friday, 22nd of November, 2024.
The event included registration of 100 voluntary donors, blood donation proper, and also encouraging the donors of regular blood donations by joining reputable blood drive networks, such as TBDN. There were about 81 recorded pints at the end of the project.
Speaking with the Press, Daniella Obikunle, the head of the organizing team said; “25-27% of about 2 million needed blood pint donations are only met, leading to a large deficit that results in delays in medical treatments and avoidable deaths. A pint of blood can save up to 3 adult lives, and by the grace of God, 81 pints have been donated in the course of this project. I am happy the project was not an effort in futility, and I want to specially thank our partners and sponsors, volunteers and friends that made sure this project comes to fruition.”
The Lifestream project is the closing stretch of the initial blood drive organized at BOLAB Laboratories for Sickle Cell children on Friday, September 27th, 2024.
