The fixtures and modalities for the 2024/2025 ABH League were announced in a Press Conference held on the 31st of July, 2024, at the Famewo Common Room, Alexander Brown Hall, UCH.
A blind draw featuring all six competing teams; Oshin FC, Titans FC, Skippo FC, Shegzy FC, Gladiators FC, and Blazers FC, was used to determine the order of fixtures on the opening game on Saturday, 3rd August 2024, and all other nine gameweeks. The first match of the season will see Skippo FC take on Gladiators FC, while league newcomers, Oshin FC play Blazers FC, and then Titans FC vs Shegzy FC for the final, 9 AM match.
The draws for the Dr Victor Aire’s FA Cup also took place. Titans, Shegzy, and Skippo were drawn in Group A while Blazers, Oshin, and Gladiators were drawn in Group B. 2023/2024 Treble-holders, Stampede FC, will not be competing this season.
Clarifications on certain subjects were made by the ABH Football Association Chair, Olamide Omotunde. Speaking with representatives of the teams, and the Press, he outlined the rules on handballs, fouls, and card issuance. He restated that the rules from the previous season were to be maintained in that regard.
Teams requested a reversion of the quota for non-Brownites to five players to which the FA Chair responded, stating that details of a change or otherwise would be communicated. There was further clarification by himself and Okelue Patrick, a member of the FA, on controversies from the previous season; prominently, the continued suspension of individuals on the 2023/2024 D’infernos team.
Speaking with the Press on expectations and preparations, the ABH FA Chair, said, “ We’ve had two weeks of pre-season friendly matches for teams to prepare their players and to aid in final selections of players. Of no doubt, the standard of the ABH league would be maintained and even elevated this season. We’re currently working on having an online platform where fans all over can follow statistics of all matches in real-time”. On the lack of a mention of the Female League, he said, “We had the first edition of the female league last season. We are currently considering a lot of factors, including participation of females, to sustain the female league. Once the FA concludes on the matter we will communicate with the football community.”
