Sigma Club Unveils Plans for 2026 Sports Festival

The Sigma Club, University of Ibadan, has announced details of its 2026 Sports Festival, a multi-sport event scheduled to run from August 29 to September 12, 2026, across selected locations on campus. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Saturday, August 29, which began at 5:00 p.m. and provided an overview of the festival, its activities and competition formats.
The press conference opened with an address by Loyalist Sulaimon Oluwasegun Philipson, Chairman of the Publicity Committee, followed by the introduction of Loyalist Oladoja Ayomide, Chairman of the committee in charge of the festival. Organisers also provided clarifications on the various competition formats, including football, which will adopt a Champions League-style structure. The top eight male teams will progress to the knockout stage, while the female competition will produce four semifinalists through its qualification process.

Beyond football, the festival will feature Marathon, Ludo, Scrabble, Chess and Table Tennis. The official programme describes the event as an expansion of Sigma Club’s previous football-focused competition, with the 2026 edition designed to accommodate a wider range of sporting and intellectual interests.
The festival is expected to bring students together through sports, board games and athletics while promoting inclusion and healthy competition.
