NASU and SSANU Commence Total and Comprehensive Strike on May 1, 2026

The Joint Action Committee(JAC) of Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have begun an indefinite and total strike, today, May 1, 2026.
The action was declared in a circular, dated April 30, 2026 and directed to all Branch Chairmen, detailing the proceedings of a meeting held by the national leadership of the JAC of NASU and SSANU together with the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa. A strike was resorted to due to failure of the federal government to conclude negotiations on allowances, after the rejection of the 30% Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA), not only was the offer withdrawn but no new offer was put forward.


“All NASU and SSANU members are hereby enjoined to comply with this directive for the survival of our existence in the system,” the circular, signed by the General Secretary of NASU and the President of SSANU, reads.
