LIVE: “We don’t plan to stop anytime soon” UItes say as Protest Settles at Main Gate

Students of the University of Ibadan currently demonstrating against the 104-Day blackout at the Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Post-Graduate Hall, have cordoned off the UCH Main Gate, remaining resolute in their demand for immediate restoration of power.

Speaking with the Press, one of the protesters, a fourth-year medical said, “The turnout us massive. We’ve received massive support from those people in UI. So far, the protest has been peaceful”. He added, “We are here to make a statement to the management of the hospital and UI in general that we are tired of suffering in darkness. That’s why we have united on this front to make sure our voices are heard. We don’t plan to stop anytime soon. We will continue to protest until our voices are heard”.

Another, a lady said, “I’m angry. That’s what it is. I’m angry that we have to protest a third time. People that did not do anything have light, we don’t have light”.

This is very ridiculous. The funny thing is that UCH will still have this issue again because we are not the cause. This problem can not continue. We don’t want this blackout again”, one emphasised, visibly agitated by the situation.

As of this report, there has been no comment from the Hospital Management nor any attempts at engaging students this morning. It remains to be seen what steps are taken next by both the College of Medicine, UI, and UCH Management.
