2024 NiMSA Games Postponed

The 2024 Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) Games has been postponed till further notice according to a notice sent out by the Local Organising Committee on Sunday, 4th August, 2024.

The notice stated that it was “due to security reasons arising from the nationwide protests and the current situations in the country” and that “[NiMSAites’] well-being and safety are the utmost priority of the organising commitee“. A new date is to be announced in due time.

Speaking with the Press, the Head of the Local Organising Committee, Adeleke Adedeji, who is a member of the Association of Medical Students, University of Lagos (AMSUL) said, “The games will definitely hold this year. Lives have been lost in this protest and the higher authorities sent their concerns to our schools authorities about the issue of security of students. Also, it’s a policy of UNILAG to put the welfarism of students first“. On concerns about already-made payments for registration and stands, he said, “Of course we won’t swallow their money. Registration will move on as planned and if it isn’t satisfactory with those schools that have paid, refunds willl be issues. But I’m certain the best decision with the new date for majority of schools involved will be taken into consideration.  We, as a host school have invested so much into the games that has never been done before, solely for the purpose of all NiMSAites to enjoy sports and promote collaboration and excellence.”

Recall that the Games were earlier scheduled to run from the 11th to the 17th of August, 2024; the last edition having taken place in 2018.
