University of Ibadan Student Affairs Division Set to Organise Fire-Safety Training In Preparation For The Use of Gas in Halls of Residence

In an internal memorandum released on 26th September, 2026 by the University of Ibadan Student Affairs Division,the Dean of Students extends an invitation to hall wardens for the fire-safety training in preparation for the use of gas in halls of residence across the University of Ibadan.

According to the memorandum, the training is scheduled to take place on Monday,28th September,2026 by 1:30pm at Trenchard Hall. It is planned as a “Train-the-trainers” event and is said to be in tandem with the Vice Chancellor’s charge that – “The Use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for cooking in the Halls of Residence will only commence after safety measures have been put in place and residents have been properly trained”.

Wardens are requested to attend the short training along with nominated officers and students of their respective Halls of Residence. In the memorandum, it is also recommended that the selected attendees from each Hall of Residence should cut across assistant wardens, welfare officers, hall executives (including defence ministers), floor representatives, resident members of the Man O’ War and the Red Cross, adding that due to the short notice, the hall wardens might open participation to members of the Hall of Residence who indicate their availability.

The number of attendees allotted to each Hall of Residence is also stated at the end of the memorandum with a total 240 attendees expected at the training.
