UI’SU Holds Stakeholders Meeting, Reaches Resolution for Halt to School Fees Payment, Others

On Wednesday, 12th of June 2023, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union leadership called a stakeholders meeting at the UI SRC Chambers to discuss the next line of action of the union as regards the new fees regime on students portal.

The resolutions of the meeting included the Union putting out her strong stance that all her members should desist from paying the outrageous fee on their portals, an online campaign to show displeasure with the state of things and also to sensitize all members of the Union including freshers on the Union’s position and the need to stand by it, and also to constitue a committee to review the fees and propose more workable fees for the students.

The stakeholders meeting, which was to have in attendance the Chairperson of Halls, President of Faculty and Departments, Hall Assembly speakers, Speakers of the legislative council of Faculties and Departments, AUCSF President, MSSN Amir, UCJ President amongst other students’ leaders, turned out to be a gathering of just a fair numeric strength with less than 40 persons in attendance. However, unlike what was previously obtainable, the President of the Faculty of Clinical sciences and other students’ leaders from the College of Medicine were present in their trickles.

The meeting which started at about 4:34 pm, about 30 minutes behind the scheduled time, saw deliberations lasting for close to 3 hours. During the deliberation, numerous opportunities available to the Union as the next course of action were deliberated on and final resolutions were eventually reached.

Speaking to our correspondent, the President of the Students’ Union, Aweda Bolaji charged all students to conform to the resolution of the student stakeholder holders.“My charge to students is that they should please, let’s make this easy for ourselves,” he said. “The representatives came here to speak the minds of the students and let’s try our possible best to make it easier by adhering to do what we have decided here to do for the best interest of the students,” he added.
