UIMSA Holds Public Hearing on Endowment Fund Commission Bill

The University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association (UIMSA) held a public hearing today, Saturday, July 12, 2025, for the “Act to Establish the UIMSA Endowment Fund Commission”.

The session, convened by the Senate Rules and Ethics Committee, was scheduled for 8:00 p.m. and officially commenced at 8:05 p.m. via Google Meet. It was presided over in line with Article XXXII, No. 25 of the UIMSA Constitution, which empowers members of the Association to contribute to public hearings even if they cannot propose amendments directly.

The bill, authored and presented by Senator Joshua Inioluwa, seeks to establish a Commission responsible for managing an endowment fund that would support UIMSA’s long-term development and financial sustainability.

Congressmen, Senators and UIMSAites were given the opportunity to ask questions and make recommendations. Concerns raised included transparency in fund disbursement, selection of commission members and board of trustees. Others included those surrounding submission of an annual report and on audit mechanisms.

The hearing was moderated by the Senate Rules and Ethics Committee, chaired by Emmanuel Agboke with Elizabeth Ayegboyin as Secretary. The session ended at approximately 9:25 p.m. after extensive deliberations.
