UI’ SU to Hold Protest in Solidarity with ABH, Falase Residents

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union, via a release on the afternoon of Tuesday, the 21st of January, 2025, has announced a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with residents of the Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Post-Graduate Hall who have been without power for 81 days, as of today.
This demonstration is to begin at 7 AM, with the UCH Main Gate as the convergence point, and the Oyo State Secretariat as the final destination. It follows an open letter released eight days ago, on the 13th January, 2025, imploring the Federal Government to address the deplorable situation of the University College Hospital, with a seven-day ultimatum given which expired at 11:59 PM yesterday.

In addition to this release, a notice has also been made by the Alexander Brown Hall with three major demands, including: I. Immediate restoration of power to the University College Hospital, and other hospitals that are in darkness across Nigeria. II. Immediate implementation of the Federal Government’s promise of a 50% power subsidy for healthcare facilities and Tertiary institutions. III. Reform of the healthcare sector for quality healthcare delivery. Before this announcement, several calls had been made by residents of the Alexander Brown Hall for a timely solution, all to no avail.
The UIMSA Press will offer live coverage of the demonstration. Kindly join our fan page here to stay abreast of proceedings.
