Sigma Club UI Set to Host 11th Public Lecture

The Sigma Club, University of Ibadan, will host its 11th Public Lecture on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Alumni Multipurpose Hall in honour of Old Chief Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, FCIB, FCA, D.Sc.

Themed “Leveraging Technology & Digital Education for Mass Employment, Wealth Creation and Poverty Alleviation”, this year’s edition promises timely insight into national development through technology. Guest speaker is Dr. Karl Toriola, MD/CEO of MTN Nigeria, with Governor Seyi Makinde serving as Chairman of the Day.

Speaking at the press conference, Sigma Chief, Ayodeji Toyinbo, described the lecture as part of the Club’s longstanding tradition of public enlightenment. “This is the 11th edition. We bring reputable speakers like Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who was a speaker at the 9th Public Lecture and Prof. Ayo Banjo, a Pro Vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan who spoke at the last public lecture” he said. On this year’s theme, he noted, “Tech is the future. If Nigeria is serious about ending poverty, then youths must begin to explore technology.”

Chief Scribe, Olaniyan Mohammed, spoke on logistics, confirming that the Alumni Hall will host the event, with provision for on-site registration and an outdoor extension in case of an overflow.

In his closing remarks, Publicity Chair, Sulaimon Philipson, reminded the press of Sigma Club’s commitment to social impact. “This lecture is part of our mission to give back to society,” he said, inviting the pressmen present and public to attend.
