At about 4:30 PM on Monday, the 19th of May, 2025, in the Kunle Adepeju Student Union building, the draws for the groupings of teams for the 7th edition of the Seals Cup were held.
The draws were highly anticipated because of all the hype and talking points surrounding this edition of the Seals Cup. They did not fail to deliver, as all eyes are already turned to Wednesday. UI football faithful eagerly await the opening clash between last year’s finalists, MBBS and Industrial Product Engineering (I.P.E.).
MALE GROUPINGS
In Group A, already dubbed the group of death, Seals Cup’s ‘big boys,’ MBBS and I.P.E., will slug it out with Arts and Social Science Education (A.S.S.E.) and Biochemistry.
In Group B, two teams from Pharmacy, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, and Statistics will qualify for the next round.
In Group C, Economics will look to break their group-stage exit curse while battling Physiotherapy, Microbiology, and Communication and Language Arts (CLA).
In Group D, Political Science looks set to have an easy ride. Will Law, Archeology & Anthropology, and Civil Engineering make it easy for them?
For Group E, Veterinary Medicine, LARIS, History, and Sociology will battle it out.
In Group F, Wood and Biotechnology Engineering (W.B.E.) appear to be favorites to top the group. What will Environmental Health Sciences (E.H.S.), Geology, and Physics have to say about this?
Philosophy has another chance to rectify their abysmal showing in the last edition of the competition. However, they have to contend with the dogged Psychology, Forestry, and Agric Engineering in Group G.
In Group H, Human Kinetics and Health Education (K.H.E.) and Petroleum Engineering look like clear favorites to make it out of the group at the expense of URP and Architecture.
FEMALE GROUPINGS
Group A features defending champions A.S.S.E. going toe-to-toe with Statistics, Human Kinetics, and LARIS.
In Group B, silver medalists from the last edition, MBBS, look like sure favorites to top the group, consisting of next-door neighbor Physiotherapy, Law, and Forestry.
In Group C, we will have Sociology, E.H.S., Archeology & Anthropology, and Microbiology slugging it out.
In Group D, Philosophy and History looks set to have an easy ride to the next round, their challengers being first-time comers, Pharmacy and Computer Science.
