NUGA ‘25: Game Days 3 and 4 Roundup

UI continued their quest for NUGA glory on Tuesday. In the male football category, the UI Pioneers were held to a 1-all draw against Usman Danfodio University. This was enough to set them up for a quarter-final fixture against FUTMINNA, finishing the group stage with 5 points.
In the squash event, UI defeated FUTMINNA 2-1. Afterwards, UI experienced a rain of medals at the judo event earning 7 medals—1 gold medal by Bello Olajide, 1 silver medal by Mololuwa Oluwaseun and 5 bronze medals by Olumiyiwa Morikeoluwa, Mathew Deborah, Ayo-solanke Fortune, Hammed Aminat Olajumoke and Ogungbe Adedoyin Opeyemi. UI also won a bronze medal in the Taekwondo 49kg event.
The first medal in track and field eventually came in the triple jump event as Oladele Ibrahim secured the gold medal.
On Wednesday, the UI Pioneers continued their quest for glory against FUTMINNA. However, they lost narrowly 1-2, ending UI’s journey in NUGA ’25 football.
UI went on to win a silver medal in the judo team event, a bronze medal in the squash team event by Chiegbune Winifred and Ovie-Afabor Dorothy, a silver medal in the male 50m freestyle swimming event by Alimi Olarenwaju and a bronze medal in the female 50m freestyle swimming event by Balogun Aishat.
UI will aim to earn more medals as they continue their NUGA journey today.
