UIMSA Press’ Utibe Emerges as UCJ-UI Editor-in-Chief

On Saturday, 6th of November, 2025, the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan conducted her yearly elections to decide the Union’s 38th set of Executives.

Held online between 10 am and 5 pm, the polls saw Adebumowa Jesutomiwo of the Faculty of Law edge out her coursemate, Omofala Samuel with 53 votes to 36 to emerge as the UCJ-UI President-elect. Meanwhile, in the keenly contested race for Editor-in-Chief, present Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Utibe Emmanuel will poll 47 votes to UCJ Politics Editor, Oluwasegun Akanni’s 40. Olajide Tikristi, Akimbobola Oluwaferanmi and Williams Aanuoluwapo emerged as General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary and PRO I respectively.

Speaking to the Press, Utibe stressed his commitment to all journalists within the Union. “To everyone who might have been unconvinced in the course of electioneering, I’d like to appeal to you to work with us, because we do have your interests and those of the student populace, whom we serve, in mind. The goal is to make the 38th Administration one to remember in the annals of history—to build on the work done by our wonderful predecessors in the 37th and to better those things which they were not able to do.” In addition, the Vice-President (Editorial) elect was thankful to the journalists who voted and his opponent, Akanni Oluwasegun who made it “a race as prestigious as one would hope for”.

Bye-elections are still set to be held for the positions of Vice-President Administration, Financial Secretary and PRO II which recorded no contestants.
