Exactly 11 days ago, the Faculty of Law, Literary and Debating Society (LnD), on 17th September, 2026, issued a letter to The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan (TLDS’UI) making a request for an urgent re-judging of the Jaw War semi-final debate between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Education. The earlier outcome of the round as reported by UIMSA Press, was that Education won the impromptu tie-breaker round against Law 84% to 79.3%.
The Faculty of Law’s letter explained its position stating that they strongly believe that the outcome of the round including the main debate and the impromptu round warrants an independent review, it also added that the request was made with “humility and full respect for the judges.”
Faculty of Law, Literary and Debating Society’s Letter to TLDS
In response to the Faculty of Law, Literary and Debating Society’s letter, TLDS’UI made a release on 27th September, 2026, titled “RESOLUTION ON THE JAW WAR 2026 EDUCATION VS LAW SEMI-FINAL ROUND.” The release stated that all parties including Faculty of Education Literary and Debating Society, Faculty of Law Literary and Debating Society and TLDS’UI, agreed that “the substantive debate round be reviewed by a new set of independent adjudicators for the sake of breaking the tie in the debate round,” adding that both Education and Law handpicked a new panel of 5 judges for the re-assesment which was later conducted by 3 out of the 5 selected judges.
At the end of the re-assesment, Law scored 84.6% while Education scored 82.4% and based on the outcome of the review, the Faculty of Law has been declared the winner of the semi-final round between Education and Law and will therefore proceed to Jaw War 2026 Finals scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 14th October, 2026.
TLDS’UI’s Letter on the Resolution On Jaw War 2026 Education vs Law Semi-final Round
Following the response by TLDS’UI, the Education Literary and Debating Society (ELDS) made a release stating its position on the semi-final review. In the release, ELDS stated that “taking part in a review is not the same as agreeing that the review had the power to overturn a final result.” It also stressed that the decision of the judges officially assigned to the round remains final and that “the original Education Vs Law result stands.”
ELDS’ Release Stating Its Position on Jaw War 2026 Semi-final Review
It concluded by stating that if the final decision is that the initial result cannot stand due to the decision of a later panel, then every Jaw War 2026 semi-final round must be reviewed on the same basis.
