The athletic team of the University of Ibadan organized an inter-faculty 4x100m relay event, which was held at Awo stadium on Thursday, 8th of August, 2024, between 4:45 PM and 6:15 PM.
The event, which comprised 13 Faculty teams and 4 divisions; the Faculties of Technology, Economics, and Art in the first division; the Faculties of Education, Vet. Medicine, and Law in the second division; the Faculties of Agriculture, Nursing, and Clinical Sciences in the third division; and the Faculties of Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) in the fourth division. The two best runners in each division qualified for the finals, after which they competed for the five best champions.
In the first round of the female category, Technology and Economics qualified in the first division; Education and Law, in the second division; Agriculture in the third division; with BAMSSA and RNR in the fourth division. These qualified them for the finals.
For the male category in the first division, Technology and Economics in the first division; Education, Law and Vet. Medicine in the second division; Agriculture in the third division; and BAMSSA and RNR in the fourth division. Likewise, these qualified them for the finals.
In the finals, the five best winners for the male category are, in descending ranking order; BAMSSA, Technology, Social Science, Economics, and Agriculture. And for the female category; Economics, RNR, Agriculture, Education, and Arts. All five will represent the University of Ibadan in the South-West games, but only the best three were awarded medals.
Addressing the spectators, Coach Ajijola said, “We want this competition to hold every year as we aim to increase students participation in sports activities. Next year, we hope that this will be even bigger. We will be organizing a South-West competition and with the support from our sponsors, the prizes will increase.”
The five winners will now anticipate the South-West games, of which the date has not yet been disclosed.
Faculties that didn’t show up for the female categories included: Nursing, Clinical Sciences, Vet. Medicine, Sciences, Social Sciences, and BAMSSA, while for the male categories included: Arts, Nursing, and Clinical Sciences. Nursing and Clinical Sciences thus did not participate at all.
