UIMSA Holds MB1 Talk for 300-Level Class

A shot of the audience during the event.

The University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association, via the Office of the Special Duties Officer (Preclinical), Greatness Abraham, organised a pre-examination orientation talk for the Part 1 Medical Board Examinations of the 300-level class (2k25) on Saturday, 18th January 2025, at the Preclinical Lecture Theatre, University of Ibadan.

The event, scheduled for 10 AM, began an hour later, with Dr. O. S. Oyedun, the Anatomy Department MBBS/BDS Co-ordinator. He gave an overview of the structure of Papers I, II, and III of Anatomy, marks allotted per section, the importance of time management in the exam, and the ‘dos and don’ts’ of the exam, based on common mistakes students make.

The second speaker, Eriomala John, a member of the 2k24 class, emphasised the possibilities that could be achieved with preparation in the remaining days, regardless of how unprepared any candidate might feel. He stressed the importance of having support systems, drafting feasible plans, attending tutorials, solving past questions and reading what matters.

Lastly, Tofunmi Adegoke, also a member of the 2k24 class, who had a Distinction in Anatomy, walked the audience through smart preparations for the exams, highlighting areas of focus and specific approaches across the three courses, pointing out relevant materials, and how to answer questions during the exams.

In his parting remarks, the SDO extended his appreciation to the speakers and members of the class for attending the program, wishing them success in their exam which starts in 25 days.

Speaking on her experience, Paulina Inedu, an attendee and a member of the 2k25 class said; “I went for the talk with little expectations because I felt like there was nothing new I needed to hear this close to MB, but I was so wrong. Every speaker brought a different but also much-needed perspective. I now know how to better structure my studying these remaining weeks and I also feel more confident about passing this exam. I’d like to thank the SDO preclinicals, the UIMSA Executive team and the speakers for the roles they played in putting this together.
