On Friday, the 22nd of September, 2023, the University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association (UIMSA) emerged as champions of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NIMSA) South-West Convention Inter-MSA Quiz Competition, for the second year running, at the 2023 South-West Regional Convention held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Ogun State.
They did so after claiming 10 points in the tie-breaker round to emerge winners ahead of 2nd-place, Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Students Association (IFUMSA) who tallied 7 points, and 3rd-place, Olabisi Onabanjo University Medical Students Association (OOUMSA), who had 6 points. Other participants in the Quiz include the Association of Medical Students, University of Lagos (AMSUL), Bowen University Association of Medical Students (BUAMS), Lagos State University Medical Students Association (LASUMSA), Babcock University Medical Students Association (BAMS), and Medical Students Association of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED) who emerged 4th to 8th place, respectively.
The Quiz featured questions on ten subjects, including; Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Medicine, Surgery, and General Knowledge. It’s one of several key activities in the annual convention.
Speaking with the UIMSA Press, Fifth-year student and a member of the Royal Quiz Club, Joshua John Inioluwa, said “I’m elated. The Royal Quiz Club team and coaches put in a lot of effort which paid off bountifully. It was a very interesting experience and I am glad we successfully defended our title as Champions of the Southwest. I look forward to the National Quiz when we will defend our title as Champions of Nigeria”.
