UI’ SU Executive Council Elections to Hold on February 22nd as SUECUI Releases Election Timeline

The ban on electoral activities of the Students’ Union, University of Ibadan, is set to be lifted on Saturday, 18th January, 2025, with the Executive Council elections to hold on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, as announced by the Students’ Union Electoral Commission in a release made yesterday, January 16th, 2025, via social media channels. 

The release, which is the first for the 2023/2024 Election season, included the Election Timeline and a guideline for electoral activities. The guidelines listed are: I. Electoral campaigns and related activities must comply strictly with the electoral guidelines as provided by the Electoral Commission. II. Candidates and campaign teams are to ensure decorum and respect university rules during all engagement. III. Activities should foster unity and respect, reflecting the core values of our university. 

Below is the full timeline for the elections:

Lift of Ban – 18th January, 2025

Collection and Submission of Nomination Forms – 20th – 31st January 2025 

Screening exercise for candidates – 15th February, 2025

Press Night – 15th February, 2025

Manifesto Night – 21st February, 2025

Executive Council Elections – 22nd February, 2025

Collection and Submission of Nomination Forms for Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Election – 27th January – 24th February, 2025

Screening exercise for SRC candidates – 25th – 26th February, 2025

SRC Election – 1st March, 2025

According to the SUECUI release, signed by Chairman of the Publicity Committee, Olanrewaju Ibrahim Osiga, and Chairman of the Logsitics Commitee, former UI’ SU General Secretary, Olaniyi Sodeeq,  “This announcement marks the beginning of the much-anticipated electoral process for the upcoming elections. All candidates, campaign teams, and stakeholders are advised to prepare for the commencement of activities while adhering strictly to the electoral guidelines”. 

The announcement follows weeks of silence concerning the Elections, especially considering the academic calendar which places today,Thursday 17th of January, 2025, as the last day of the 11 Weeks for Teaching/Revision and Continuous Assessment.
