UCH Blackout Day 87: ABH Stakeholders to Meet Over Next Course of Action

In conversations with the Press, the Chairperson of the Alexander Brown Hall, Ayotunde Oni, and erstwhile UI Students’ Union President, Samson ‘Host’ Tobiloba, have confirmed that there will be a meeting of ABH Stakeholders later today to plot the next course of action concerning the continued now 87-day blackout in the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

According to them, this meeting will involve ABH Executives, Presidents of the various associations within ABH, and Speakers of the legislative bodies in said associations, and is arriving in light of the defaulted promise made by the Head of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Oyo State, Oba Adewole Solomon to restore power to UCH by Friday, 24th January, 2025.

At the protest on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, the Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji, had promised to resume the protest by Monday if the promise was not upheld. He had issued a two-week ultimatum earlier that day if students’ demands weren’t met. It remains to be seen what steps the Union, alongside ABH Stakeholders, take next.

The UIMSA Press observed that a number of ABH residents had returned home following the defaulted promise and continued poor conditions. Some cited frustration with the blackout and compounding costs brought on by constant transportation in search of power, among others.
