UCH Blackout Day 97: After Standstill Meeting with Management, ABH Excos Call for Town Hall

In an announcement made about an hour ago, Executives of the Alexander Brown Hall, have disclosed that following a meeting with the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI), yesterday, 5th February, 2025, there is still no certainty concerning the restoration of power to UCH nor a clear timeline for debt repayment. 

Subsequent to this, the Executives called for a Town Hall Meeting by 6 PM on Friday, 7th February 2025, to ‘brief the student body on the details of yesterday’s engagement and collectively determine our next line of action’. 

In the announcement, the Executives stated that the meeting, which also had the UI Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji, in attendance, was led by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Abiodun Adeoye, and Deputy Provost, Professor S.B Olaleye, on the Management’s side. They further stated, “They [Management] acknowledged that they have been doing everything possible to get us connected back to IBEDC. However, no tangible commitment has been secured. The management teams could not provide a clear timeline for debt settlement or a definitive plan for restoring power to the hall”. 

The meeting comes on the eve of an announcement by the UI’ SU on Monday, 2nd February 2025, resolving to resume physical demonstrations if power isn’t restored today, 6th February. 

Today marks 97 Days of power outage at the nation’s foremost Teaching Hospital. Despite promises and assurances from individuals at both State and Federal level, there has still been no significant intervention.
