Tree Felling Continues on Campus, Raises Concerns

Lumbering activities, including the felling of trees, have been observed on the university campus this week. Operations were noted on Monday morning along the SUB-Zik lane and again today, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the SUB bus stop.

The tree cutting has reportedly caused diversions for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, with individuals stating they had to seek alternative routes. Observations included trees being processed into logs.

The activities have prompted various reactions from individuals on campus:

Commentator A: “I don’t know why they’re cutting the trees but it’s affecting cars and students, we can’t pass through. We have to follow another side. Also, I feel this might be temporary but it reminds me of Heritage park. It was sad and disheartening because people make use of that place and there was no prior notice. I hope this set of cuttings are temporary.”

Commentator B: “It’s not nice actually, because see how they’re turning the trees to logs. If they need wood, they should go to other places that are not so significant. Imagine this tree that forms a shade here at this bus stop, and the beauty it adds has been taken away. Everything looks different now.”

Commentator C: “First it was Heritage park, now it’s that road that leads to Zik and today, SUB. This is a major place around campus. If they need wood, they can go farther to the bushy sides on campus. Places on campus are suddenly looking different.”

The purpose and authorization for these tree-cutting activities remain unclear As no official statement about them was circulated.
