TLDS’UI Inaugurates 2023/2024 Executives, Commissions Secretariat

The Literary and Debating Society of the University of Ibadan inaugurated her new set of executives for the 2023/2024 session and commissioned the society’s secretariat on Friday, the 21st of June, 2024.  

The event, which took place at the TLDS Secretariat at the Students’ Union building, had in attendance Dr Demola Lewis, the Staff Adviser of the society, Aweda Bolaji, the erstwhile TLDS president and current Student Union President, and the outgoing executives of the society. 

In his handover speech. Mr Aweda Bolaji thanked his fellow executives for the success of their previous administration. He also thanked Dr Demola Lewis for a harmonious partnership and his efforts in making the tenure and Jaw War 2024 a success. Speaking to the new executives, he urged that they continue the excellent work started by the previous executives and take society higher than it currently is.

Dr Demola Lewis also stressed the importance of a good partnership between society and the school administration, noting the school’s support for the TLDS during the previous Jaw War competitions. Afterwards, the new executives were officially inaugurated. 

They include Ogonna Okere (President), Favour Odiaka (Vice President), Babatimehin Peace (General Secretary) and Moboluwarin Ogunleye (Public Relations Officer). 

Speaking to the press, the President, Mr Okere, a fourth-year Law student, thanked God for making the inauguration possible. He also thanked Dr Demola Lewis and Dr Remi Aiyede, the Staff Advisers of the association. “I look forward to working with constituencies and senators to move the society to greater heights”, he said.

The Vice President, Favour Odiaka, echoed this sentiment: “By the grace of God, our tenure will be a success”.

The position of Treasurer, currently vacant, will be filled by a bye-election according to the society’s constitution.
