Sigma Chief’s League: Sports Committee Disqualifies Da-ebs FC for Violating Registration Guidelines

Sigma Sports Committee disqualified Da-ebs FC for violating registration guidelines by fielding Distance Learning Centre (DLC) students as players on the team against Achievers FC on the 18th of November, 2024.

The much anticipated tournament began yesterday, 18th of November, 2024, with the opening day featuring four matches in the male category. The first game of the day, scheduled for 2pm, between S.F.A and Nazi Boys FC, ended in a 2-0 win to the former. The next game, between Epic Alliance and Blue Waves FC ended in goalless draw after regular minutes, but saw Blue Waves advanced to the quarter finals after a penalty shootout that ended 5-6 in their favour.

The third game between City FC and Clippers FC ended in 1-0 with the only goal coming from City FC, earning them a spot in the quarter finals. The last game of the day between Achievers FC and Da-ebs FC, which brewed a controversy, ended in a 2-0 win to the latter. However, hours after the games of the day, the sports committee sent out an immediate release stating the disqualification of Da-ebs FC for fielding inappropriate players against their opponents.

In the release, they stated that it was brought to their attention during the game that Da-ebs FC had fielded players who did not meet the established qualifications as outlined in the tournament rules. Specifically, the use of ineligible players.

The sports committee chairman, Loyalist Afolabi Gideon, in the message encouraged all teams to abide by the tournament rules. The male category continues today as Black Titans face Blaze United FC, Tech Pirates vs Alpha FC, TomTom FC vs United Raiders FC, and lastly Soccer net FC vs United Superstars.
