Payment Deadline Extended by Three Weeks, Students Call for Congress

Following the 3 PM meeting with the management, The President of the Students’ Union, Aweda Bolaji, today, announced a proposed extension of the school fee payments deadline by three weeks, amidst push back from protesters gathered at the Senate Building.

The announcement comes in the aftermath of the Thursday to Friday protests in the wake of the announcement by the school management of Wednesday, 4th September, 2024, as the new deadline for payment. In response to this, the University Management met with UI SU’ President, SRC Speaker, Council of Faculty Presidents Chairman, and other concerned student leaders.

This announcement appeared to be met with strong displeasure from the protesting students. Aduwo Ayodele, one of the students in the demonstration, mentioned that the students were able to get the attention of the management  but however it was not completely in line with the resolutions from the demonstration between 10 AM on Thursday, 29th and 2 AM on Friday, 30th of august, 2024, stating that students asides the student leaders who are chosen by the Congress should be in attendance, and there should be agreement to unified resolutions from the Congress before the start of the meeting.

After the announcement by the President, as well as an address from the SRC Speaker, calls for Congress were soon made by students at the venue, pushing back against the announcement.
