The Dr. Jay Samuels Inter-MSA Quiz took place on May 30, 2025, at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The competition, hosted by the University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association (UIMSA), brought together five leading medical student associations from across the country.
Participating schools included UIMSA (University of Ibadan MSA), ILUMSA (University of Ilorin MSA), IFUMSA (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife MSA), OOUMSA (Onlabisi Onabanjo University MSA) and LASUMSA (Lagos State University MSA).
The quiz competition tested the participants’ knowledge and speed across six main categories: General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics and Logic, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and a fast-paced Blitz round. Each round presented a different challenge, with teams striving to outperform their peers in both accuracy and speed.
OOUMSA distinguished itself by consistently leading in several categories, ultimately clinching the top spot with a total of 95 points. IFUMSA came second, scoring 81 points, while LASUMSA finished closely behind with 79.5 points. UIMSA, the host team, secured fourth place with 65.5 points, and ILUMSA rounded off the standings in fifth place with 64.5 points.
Speaking with some of the spectators at the event, an attendee shared her impressions saying: “It was well coordinated and organised. I don’t have any bad reviews on my part except from the fact that it ended around 4pm. The program was for 10am – 1pm so I was disappointed that it spent so long to end. Overall, it was okay.”
Another spectator, speaking with the press said: “OOUMSA came really prepared too. I think they topped 3 out of the 5 categories. That was really nice. And the IFUMSA Blitz comeback to clinch 2nd Position.”
An attending UIMSITE also shared their thoughts, stating: “It was not so bad, though they flogged UIMSA. Also, the quiz started quite late but It was educational and interesting”
The event concluded with an awards presentation, where certificates and accolades were handed to participants and winners alike. The Dr. Jay Samuels Inter-MSA Quiz was a celebration of academic excellence, teamwork, and friendly competition among the nation’s future medical professionals.
