NiMSA President Retracts Election Results, Vice President Lashes Back

The President of the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA), Delmi Ahmadu Sardauna, has issued a formal notice retracting the election results signed and announced earlier on November 23, 2025, citing observed discrepancies, procedural irregularities, and pending clarifications. However, the Vice President External, Oreoluwa Odutoye has rejected this decision, citing constitutional violations and partiality.

The elections, which held at Delta State University, Abraka, had its results announced on the same day. The President’s retraction of the results comes three days later. “Further directives and timelines will be communicated after necessary consultations and reviews are concluded,” the President wrote after retracting the results and stating reasons.
In his follow-up letter, the Vice President accused the President of constitutional violations some of which include the President being the chairman of the NiMSA Electoral Commission (NiMSAECO), the failure to submit written petitions to the Electoral Committee no later than one hour after the announcement of results. He further argued that that such decisions shall be presented to the General Assembly (GA) no later than two hours of the announcement of the election results. “Without prejudice to any part of this constitution, such decisions of the NiMSAECO shall remain valid unless reversed by a two-thirds (2/3) majority of the accredited delegates at the GA present and voting,” he wrote quoting the constitution.
The Vice President also accused the President of favouring a particular candidate. “I humbly ask that Mr President reconsider his stance on the matter, retract his retraction and act in compliance with the constitution he has so valiantly defended during his administration in order to ensure a smooth transition for the 49th President-Elect, Mr Oladapo Femi-Adeniyi of the Association of Medical Students, University of Lagos (AMSUL),” he concluded.
