Following deliberations made at Intra-Campus Transportation Committee meetings, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union has announced a reviewed intra-campus Transport fares list with increases in certain areas, as seen in a notice released by its Complaints Committee (Task Force) on Saturday, 14th December, 2024.
The list accompanies a statement released by the UI’ SU yesterday, concerning the Union’s “successful negotiation and finalisation of a revived transportation fare price list that takes into account the current petrol price and the financial constraints faced by students”. In the statement, signed by the UI’ SU House Secretary, Elemide Daniel, and General Secretary, Ogundijo Japheth, students were also urged to “report any instances of extortion by transport workers to the House Secretary of the Union”.
Sequel to this announcement, a trip from the Main Gate to the Queen Elizabeth II Hall, Bookshop, Catholic Church, Kenneth Mellanby Hall, Lord Tedder Hall, SUB, Ransome Kuti Hall, and Bello Hall remains 100 Naira. However, trips to the Faculties of Law, Technology, and the Social Sciences, PG College, Staff Club, Anatomy, and the Second Gate areas in general, as well as Halls/Hostels of Residence along the Idia – Talents route now cost 200 Naira.
The fare to all Residential Areas, Awo Stadium, Poly Gate, DLC Sasa, Business School, and Ajiboye Extension, among others has also increased to 300 Naira.
Car drops are now 600 Naira, while tricycle drops are either 300 Naira (one passenger going to a place where the fee for a single person is 100 Naira) or 500 (one passenger going to a place where the fee for a single person is 200 Naira).
Recall that the UI’ SU had earlier resolved against transport fare increases on September 28th, 2024, following a meeting with student leaders a day prior.
