At the ongoing protest against the 82-day blackout in UCH, the Chairperson of the Alexander Brown Hall spoke with the Press concerning students’ motivations, citing difficulties faced by students.
“We are here for a peaceful demonstration for the implementation of the 50% off electricity tariffs for Federal Health Facilities that was promised by the Federal Government in August 2024. The atmosphere is energetic yet peaceful as we march from the UCH Main Gate to Oyo State Secretariat. All we ask for is that things be better for education and the health sector in Nigeria”, he said, as the crowd around chanted and sang foe action.
He added, “We can’t keep living like animals. We’ve not had light for 82 days. People are dying. People are perishing”.
As of Press time, a crowd has built up at the bus-stop in front of the College of Medicine Gate and UCH Main Entrance. Members of the Students’ Union Executive Council are also present, having arrived with a contingent from the University.
