JCIN UCH Holds 4th Convention and Investiture of 5th President

The Junior Chamber International Nigeria, University College Hospital, held its 4th Convention and Investiture of its 5th President on the 31st of May and 1st of June, 2024. The ceremony themed; “Discovery Nexus: Fusing Health and Economy Across Generations” held in two parts; a summit and the convention and investiture proper.

The Healthonomics Summit titled; “Advancing Health Initiatives for Economic Prosperity and Societal wellbeing”, held at Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre on the 31st of May. The Summit was hosted by Esther Opone and Ruqayyah Bello. Featuring professionals across different fields within and outside the health sector, the Summit highlighted current issues at the intersection of Nigeria’s healthcare and economy. In notable attendance was Professor Michael Okunola of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology representing the Chief Medical Director of UCH. Also present, were representatives of the Oyo State Commissioner of Health and the Director General of the Joint Task Force . JCIN ambassadors Idaro Michael and Akinbode Abitogun; both National Vice Presidents of the SouthWest district also attended the Summit.

Students from various departments in UI and schools in UCH also gave presentations on how their fields of study contributed to the economy. Certificates were presented to secondary school students that participated in the essay contest preceding the Summit. First place was won by the International School, Ibadan, closely followed by Methodist Grammar school. The Summit ended with a giveaway and photo sessions.

The Convention and Investiture held at International Conference Centre, Ibadan on the 1st of June. Several JCIN dignitaries were in attendance, including the Collegiate Chairperson; Promise Isaac Olayomi, the Vice President, JCIN Ibadan Elite; Ibukun Odesile and the first JCIN UCH President; Hassan Aderinto.

The theme speaker JCIN Senator Muyiwa Bamgbose spoke on the importance of youths’ contribution to the future of Nigeria and encouraged them to continue to participate actively. The sitting President Favour Animashaun presented her account of stewardship and certificates to outstanding members. The new Secretariat located at Ayodele Falase hall was launched, and funds were solicited to equip the Secretariat.

Thereafter, the newly elected Executives for the 2024 Local Organisation year were sworn into office—Maxwell Elvis; President, Moyinoluwa Ogunleye; Executive Vice President, Roheemat Odetoki; Vice President I and Teslim Adepoju; Vice President II. Other Board members also took their oaths of office.

Speaking on his investiture, the 2024 President, Maxwell Elvis recounted the major goal of JCIN; developing young people into change-makers in the society. He also stated his commitment to building on his predecessors’ efforts in ensuring growth, innovation and community impact in JCIN UCH. He appealed for the support of the members and partners in achieving the goals of the Local Organisation. The Convention ended with cake-cutting and photo sessions.
