The newly created Audiovisual E-learning Studio at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre, UCH, was commissioned and officially opened by the Ibadan Medicine Class of 1978, members of the Ibadan Medicine Specialist Group (IMSG), and College of Medicine, UI officials, on Thursday, 25th July, 2024.
Development of the studio was funded by the 1978 Class, towards the enhancement of the College of Medicine, and in line with the University of Ibadan enabled Virtual Learning System.
The event commenced some minutes past 11 AM with a short opening address by the Deputy Provost of the College, Professor Ade Fatai Adeniyi. This was followed by the welcome address from the Provost, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun. In her address, Professor Omigbodun announced that her tenure as the Provost would be coming to an end in exactly a week with the beginning of the next tenure. She recounted her journey in service, calling it “a walk of faith and miracles”. She also acknowledged several stakeholders; alumni of the College, especially the class of ‘78, President ICOMAA Worldwide, Professor Emmanuel Otolorin, President IMSG UK & Ireland, Dr. Olayiwola Ajileye, for the accomplishment of the Studio, and also other philanthropists who had contributed to the development of the College so far.
Afterwards, Dr. Opeyemi Babatola, the Representative of the 1978 class gave his remarks, thanking class members for coming together. He mentioned the work put in to realize the project, specifically pointing out how fast the project had to be implemented considering the timely depreciation value of the Naira while getting the equipment. Professor Otolorin also gave a remark; acknowledging all that contributed, and the commitment of the 1978 class so far in contributing to the development of the College, concluding with a mention of Professor Paul Hendrickse whom the College was named after.
The ICOMAA President, Dr. Ajileye and some members of the ‘78 class including Professor (Mrs.) Shokunbi, Professor Akanji and Dr. Tayo Denton also gave their remarks, followed by a speech of appreciation from the students given by Mr. Williams Owoeye a Student of the Biomedical Laboratory Science.
The photo-commissioning of the Studio by Professor Otolorin followed, and the Provost gave the closing speech, which brought the event to an end by 1:15 PM.
