Fee Hike Protesters to Face Second Hearing Thirteen Months Later

Aduwo Ayodele of the Department of History and Gbadagesin Olamide of the Institute of African Studies have been invited to appear before the University of Ibadan Student Disciplinary Committee today, 30th of June, 2025, in continuation of investigations into allegations of misconduct leveled against the duo and Nice Linus of the Faculty of Law.
This invite comes thirteen months after the initial July 2nd, 2024 hearing continues a process started in the aftermath of May 13th 2024 Fee Hike protests staged during the inauguration of the Aweda-led Student Union Executive Council at Trenchard Hall.
In conversation with the press, Aduwo was emphatic. “The fact remains that expressing dissent, especially against policies that make education increasingly inaccessible, is a constitutional right. It is both unjust and alarming that students committed to the struggle for affordable education are being subjected to relentless and calculated victimisation. This latest action also confirms what many suspected: that the University administration has not laid this matter to rest. On the contrary, the management appears determined to punish us, not for any wrongdoing but for standing up for a progressive cause.”
At the time of this publication, Nice Linus, the third defendant has not been invited to this meeting by the SDC.
