On Saturday, 30th November, 2024, the University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association held a Preclinical Quiz and Oratory Competition, at the Preclinical Lecture Theatre, UI.
The event, tagged ‘Nexus: A Preclinical Weekend’, was organised via the office of the Special Duties Officer (Preclinicals), Greatness Abraham, and also featured Games and talents exhibitions.
Following a spoken word performance by Moses Dabor, the Quiz competition began. Teams of six from the three pre-clinical classes; Mavericks (300-level), Imperium (200-level), and Eximius (100-level), participated in the Quiz. Questions were from four categories; General Science, General Knowledge, Math and Logic, and Basic Medical Sciences. However, there were two Blitz rounds. At the end of the Quiz, Eximius emerged First place with 143 points, ahead of Imperium and Mavericks, who had 100 points and 64 points, respectively.
The Oratory Competition began after a musical performance by Ariel Hne of the Eximius class. Speakers delivered five-minute speeches on the topic, “The curse of social media in the 21st century”. At the end of the Contest, Mavericks represented by Elizabeth Aiyegboyin emerged First Place with 70.25%, Eximius represented by Gloria Nelson were second with 59%, while Imperium represented by Oyeniran David were third with 52.5%.
Speaking with the Press on her experience, Onoja Elakeche, a member of the winning Eximius team, said, “They [teammates] take “stuffed” to another level. A motivation to acquire more knowledge.”.
